cherrie and the ponce suites

My high school student, Cherrie, asked me to go with her and her friend to Ponce Suites last night. Ponce Suites is a mini hotel located at Doña Vicenta Village, Davao City. If you have gone to people's park and loved those kokey inspired sculptures there and can never get enough of it, you better visit Ponce Suites! It's not just full of sculptures but in art in general! I have never seen such countless, lovely paintings in every wall and every corner of a building. The hotel is about 4 storeys which has a touch of an artist in every side.

Each and every painting, sculpture, and i-dont-know-what-it's-called-artwork is done by Davao's famous Kublai Millan. Kublai is known for his huge sculptures found in many parts of the city, namely, the monument of heroes in front of the Sangguniang Panglungsod Building and San Pedro Cathedral, the Durian family found in the airport, the Image of Jesus Christ and Cross somewhere in Tagum (I think), and the structures and totems found at People's park! Also, if you visit Ponce Suites, just before you get to the place, you will find a huge sculpture that wipes the gray clouds away. How I wish I can show you pictures of how the entrance looks like. There's no hotel in Davao that looks so welcoming than Ponce Suites. It is purely Davaoeño.

I love Ponce Suites in every side, but my most favorite part of the whole place is in the fourth floor. You can bring your friends or family and enjoy the cold breeze while eating dinner or drinking beer. The hotel cafeteria has enough choices of food and drinks which are available at a very reasonable price. I think reasonable's not really the word because CHEAP is much more suited to describe it.  Last night, we had two platters of kropek and a litro bottle softdrinks. Total wallet damage? 80Php! It's really cheap, I guess. Beers (San Miguel Light, San Miguel Strong Ice Beer) only costs 30Php. I haven't seen the cocktails and vodka prices, but I think it is just more or less 80Php per shot. Come to think of it, beers in clubs cost about 45Php per bottle. So, that is 15php cheaper, right? Cool, isn't it? Maybe I'll visit the place more often in the coming days.
